Selecting a home builder with whom you will work very closely for several months is a very important decision. You need to be able to put a significant amount of trust in this individual, and the wrong decision can lead to multiple problems down the road.

Specifically, we would suggest that you consider the following when selecting your builder:

• Does your builder genuinely seem interested in your needs and desires?

• Does your builder make honesty and integrity an important part of his or her way of doing business?

• Does your builder look for ways to make your house unique to you and your family?

• Does your builder outline up-front what your expectations of him or her should be?

• Does your builder try to set himself or herself apart from all other builders, and will he or she document those differences for you?

• Does your builder offer to help you in all phases of the project, from lot selection to moving in?

• Does your builder commit to document any and all changes from the original contract in writing for you?

The above list details just a few of the questions you might want to consider when choosing a builder to work with on the construction of your new home.
